Top 4 Hispanic Cities That Are Considered Heaven for Foodies

If there is one thing that genuinely makes me happy, it would be food.
I know this sounds cliché for most people, but just the thought of trying new food and exploring different menus makes me scream with joy.
As an American-born Hispanic, I sometimes think this is all because of my roots. I mean, every American loves to enjoy food. The big portion size, the food piles, and the giant food packaging are a testament to America’s insatiable hunger for tasty food.
Now, mix this passion for food with the tantalizing Latino flavors. A combination made in heaven, right?
While the American population is already in love with Latino fast food joints, I thought of experiencing the authentic Latino flavors.
So, if you are also a foodie at heart, join me on this flavorful journey in the Hispanic world.
Before we get straight to the list, it is very important to know that these suggestions are based on my experience. If you are looking for options that suit your taste, make sure to go through our lists and especially watch some videos as well.
Research does not require a lot of effort, time, or money. Instead, you just need your phone and an internet connection, like Xfinity. I prefer its services over the others, not only because it’s fast and reliable, but also because it offers Wi-Fi hotspots all over the US and a dedicated Xfinity en español channel for its Spanish-speaking customers.
Now, let’s move on to my top picks for cities that are essentially food heaven.
Merida, Mexico
Starting our list with our neighbors, who introduced us to the best food.
From the Tex-Mex that we enjoy today to some of the best Hispanic fast-food franchises, most of them can be traced back to Mexico. Apart from the usual tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, Mexican cuisine has much to offer.
So, my first suggestion is Merida, the capital of the Yucatan state. The food in this region is prepared with the traditional techniques that can be traced back to Maya and European explorers.
As a tourist, you will come across famous dishes that most servers and tour guides recommend to everyone. However, make sure to explore some underrated food items as well.
My favorite dishes are Mexican-style Molletes along with some Queso relleno, Papa Dulces, and some Cochinita Pibil. Since you are eating in Mexico, prepare yourself for some real heat, especially if you want to enjoy authentic street food.
Madrid, Spain
Enjoying Hispanic food without visiting the capital of Spain? Impossible!
Now, when it comes to food, you can rest assured that Madrid will take the crown. With its rich history, famous food combos, and some experimental food from other regions, Madrid can get any foodie excited.
While visiting Madrid with friends and family, I tried food from every corner, be it a famous restaurant or just a street food vendor, and I can tell you with full confidence that every experience was unique. Within the city, my first culinary experience was at The Botin. However, this restaurant is a bit expensive.
In case you are looking for a budget option, my first pick would be La Bola. The food served here might not be fancy, but it can get your taste buds excited. While visiting La Bola, make sure to try out Cocido Madrileño – a traditional chickpea dish.
Lima, Peru
Regardless of where you live and the kind of food you enjoy, if you are a true foodie at heart, you need to visit Lima at least once in your life.
Awarded by the World Travel Awards as the World’s Leading Culinary Destination, Peru is the perfect travel destination that has so much to offer beyond food. From the exciting activities to the finger-licking delicacies and breathtaking views, Peru is a dream for every traveler.
Within Peru, Lima takes the crown when it comes to food. Peru mainly has more than 260+ official dishes and 3000+ different types of potatoes. This means that if you are a true foodie, visiting Lima will take your culinary experience to another level.
People from all over the world come to Lima just to enjoy the food. Even after five years, thinking about the food served in Lima makes me excited. From the dishes like Ceviche, along with Arroz con Mariscos and Chaufa, as well as Rocoto Relleno, every dish will offer you a different experience.
Apart from this, Lima is known for hosting Mistura – the biggest food festival of Latin America. So if you are thinking of visiting somewhere near September, make sure to attend Mistura as well.
Mendoza, Argentina
Imagine a place bustling with immigrants.
Now, I know you are probably imagining the US, but think beyond that. Any place hosting a lot of immigrants means a mix of cultures, cuisine, and flavors.
This is exactly what happened in Argentina after the Second World War. The Argentinian cuisine is mainly influenced by European cuisine. However, there is a mix of other flavors and many fun delicacies as well.
So, if you are a foodie at heart, especially if you enjoy meat-based dishes, missing Argentinian food will be a culinary sin. My favorite thing to enjoy is Asado, a fun, meaty dish that most locals enjoy on Sundays. Moreover, while visiting Mendoza, make sure to enjoy the wine with your food. Mendoza has more than 1000 vineyards.
My favorite food spot is Salentein, which is located nearly 40 minutes outside the city. Although this is a vineyard, the place also serves some of the best food. You can enjoy delicious food items from their menu and pair them with some good wine.
So, if you are a fan of Hispanic food, do not limit yourself to Burritos and Tacos. Instead, try out other things as well. Being a fellow foodie, the above-mentioned cities are my recommendations that I hope you will love as well.
